Alternate Assessment

The primary purpose of the Iowa Alternate Assessment is to improve teaching and learning. If you are completing an alternate assessment for a student, you are strongly encouraged to become a member of the alternate assessment listserv. Currently, the listserv is the primary vehicle for providing teachers and AEA staff vital information regarding the alternate assessment. To join the listserv, please send a blank message to THIS address: alternateassessment-subscribe@aea11.k12.ia.us. If you want to unsubscribe, please send a blank message to this address: alternateassessment-unsubscribe@aea11.k12.ia.us.
Another resource is the alternate assessment/significant disabilities wiki. This website allows dissemination of information pertaining to alternate assessment, as well as a site for sharing between teachers. Access the wiki at alternateassessment.wikispaces.com. The wiki allows teachers to post adapted materials for sharing purposes, download materials that others have posted, and ask questions on the discussion board. Check it out!
Professional Development Activities for 2009-2010 Regarding Alternate Assessment:
For the 2009-2010 school year, the Department of Education has created a series of four webinars, pre-recorded, to be watched at your convenience. The webinars can be found on the DE webpage for Alternate Assessment. Each webinar is about 10 minutes in length.
At Heartland, one full day work session has been scheduled for February 16, 2010 from 9-4. This work session is an opportunity for teachers to get away from their school in order to focus on completion of the alternate assessment, as well as to provide opportunities for sharing. This work session will be held at six different sites so that people do not need to drive as far. Pam Childers will be on hand at the central site to answer questions. This workshop can be found in the professional development catalog online.
For other information or assistance regarding alternate assessment, contact Pam Childers at 800-362-2720 or 270-9030, ext. 14457, or pchilders@aea11.k12.ia.us. For information on classes hosted by AEA 11, please consult the online professional development catalog. For current state information regarding completion of the alternate assessment, refer to the DE website. |
