Supported eText is digital text that is adapted to increase access to printed materials and support reading comprehension. Assistive Technology Services offers links to Websites, an analysis of the eText features, and aligns the supports to the Iowa Core Curriculum (literacy, essential reading skills, grades 3-5).


Accessible Book Collection supported eText features

A resource to provide digital text to qualified persons with disabilities. Individuals are eligible if they have a documented disability that prevents them from reading standard print effectively. Government and non-profit schools are the primary subscribers.

Adapted Learning supported eText features

A Boardmaker resource to download and share interactive or print materials. Requires Boardmaker software.

Book Builder supported eText features

Create read and share digital books. Custom-designed books for all grade levels. Integrated characters, called Coaches, can be programmed to read text, provide prompts and comprehension strategies, make predictions, summarize, enhance vocabulary, activate prior knowledge and encourage students to interact with text.

Accessible books and periodicals for readers with print disabilities. Free for all U.S. students with qualifying disabilities through memberships that are currently funded by an award from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

An online streaming video program featuring Screen Actors Guild (SAG) members reading children's books aloud. Each book includes accompanying activities and lesson ideas. Book collection includes engaging popular fiction.

Tar Heel Reader is a collection of teacher-made, easy-to-read, and accessible books on a wide range of topics. Authoring tools included.
