CRISS for Substitutes
Heartland AEA provides ongoing opportunities for training and support in order to aid implementation efforts. The Iowa Professional Development Model requires theory, demonstration, practice, support, feedback and coaching. CRISS trainings and district implementation action plans should include all of these components, keeping in mind the differing needs of staff as implementation is spread out over the years. Please call us to present a CRISS awareness to your staff or steering committee to help determine if this is the correct initiative for you. Up front planning is critical to success. The CRISS theory of change planning map will help you to make informed decisions to encourage the success of implementation. Throughout implementation the planning map should be revisited and updated to best support the needs of staff.
How will new staff be trained, mentored, and supported in their implementation?
Heartland AEA trainers are available to help you think through the CRISS theory of change planning map. These valuable planning conversations will help you to make informed decisions for long range planning.
How will the district continue to support veteran staff with training and coaching?
Heartland provides a scaffolding approach to build capacity within the district. Train-the-trainer provides opportunities to build teacher leadership. CRISS trainer support builds specific skills in content to support the frameworks, facilitation, coaching, and peer support for sustainable implementation. Regional Conferences are available for networking opportunities and for building connections to other district initiatives. Heartland trainers also provide specific training for substitute teachers
How can we help you to support your staff in implementation?
Heartland AEA trainers are committed to multiple years of support to Project CRISS schools. Trainers provide official CRISS training, extended modeling, as well as one-on-one coaching in lesson design and development. Our trainers also provide support to administrators with Implementation Walkthrough Training. According to implementation research, what gets monitored gets implemented. Joyce and Showers research on professional development is clear that if you aren't going to plan for the coaching, don't bother to do the training.
How will you evaluate effectiveness of Project CRISS implementation?
Heartland AEA supports districts in the collection of implementation data, including test pilot surveys. This data can be valuable in planning ongoing professional development. Walk-throughs will help to determine fidelity and frequency of implementation. This data will guide decisions regarding specific staff/student needs. Heartland AEA also supports the use of action research to help teachers ask targeted questions, collect student achievement data, and use this information to answer their own questions about instructional practices.
