Leadership Matters

Research conducted through McREL has linked quality leadership to student achievement.  Using this information, Heartland has established a three-year Leadership Academy to help districts develop effective leaders.

Year One: McREL’s Balanced Leadership®

Heartland will offer the next Leadership Academy Cohort beginning in January 2008, based upon McREL’s School Leadership that Works. This research identifies the specific principal leadership skills and responsibilities associated with increased student achievement. For school leaders who have participated in Year 1, one of the leading researchers and scholars in our field, Dr. Robert Marzano, will be sharing information on the topics of The Effective Teaching Model and Building Background Knowledge and Vocabulary for All Students.
