Registration Background:
School districts receive $1,300 from the State for each first and second-year teacher. Districts pay the mentors $500 per semester and may use the remaining funds for program expenses. Districts are required to register first-year teachers, second-year teachers, and mentor teachers online. At the time of registration, districts will be required to enter a Purchase Order number to complete the registration process.
NOTE: Districts often choose to register second-year mentors along with second-year teachers, seminars are designed for mentors who have not been previously trained.
In addition to working with newly assigned beginning teachers, previously trained mentors are encouraged to continue networking with their colleagues to provide a culture of mentoring support within their buildings and districts. Mentors can download interaction logs and forms each year.

Drake University Graduate Credit:
Two optional Drake graduate credits are available for $200 per class. In addition to the requirements listed above, participants must complete an individual mentoring project to receive an "A" for Drake graduate credit.
NOTE: As determined by Chapter 17 of the Iowa Code, the independent study format of the Des Moines SIT mentoring relationship prevents Heartland from offering course credit to second-year teachers.
