HEARTLAND AEA PROJECT WINS DISTANCE LEARNING AWARD
JOHNSTON, Iowa -- Heartland Area Education Agency's Telejustice Series, which provided students with an in-depth look at Iowa's judicial system, has won the Points of Presence Award by the Iowa Distance Learning Association.
The award recognizes outstanding education programs that provide classes or learning opportunities at distant locations. Lyneé Klaus, Heartland's Iowa Communications Network (ICN) services consultant, coordinated the series.
The Telejustice Series provided several learning activities using the ICN. Students across Iowa viewed live parole hearings, portions of an actual Iowa trial, a panel of youthful offenders talking about their experiences and participated in a law career day. The series supported teachers with curriculum packets and other educational materials.
Klaus collaborated with a number of organizations and individuals within the justice community to create the Telejustice Series. The series was an Iowa Star Schools project supported by Iowa Public Television.
