HEARTLAND AEA
CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR WAYNE RAND TO RETIRE
JOHNSTON, Iowa
– After leading Heartland Area Education Agency for half of its 30-year
existence, chief administrator Wayne Rand announced his retirement effective
the end of June 2006.
Rand
came to Heartland AEA in Johnston in 1990 from the Lewis Central Community
School District, where he had been superintendent since 1986. He also had been
superintendent of the Central City Community School District. Rand is Heartland
AEAÕs third chief administrator since the agency opened in 1975.
The Heartland AEA
board of directors plans to advertise for RandÕs position later this year and
name his successor in early 2006.
Rand said it will be difficult to leave Heartland AEA. ÒAs I have stated on many occasions, Heartland AEA staff members are exceptional dedicated individuals providing high quality services. It has been a privilege to be a part of Heartland.Ó
In
retirement, Rand said he will spend time with his family and pursue other
activities of interest.
Heartland
AEA is one of IowaÕs 12 area education agencies. Heartland provides educational
services and programs for preschool children, students, educators and families
in 11 central Iowa counties. Heartland employs more than 600 persons and funds
about 170 special education positions for the Des Moines Public Schools.
