The Parent & Educator Connection (PEC) encourages and assists parents and educators as they work together to improve communication between home and school for children and young adults with special needs.

What can the PEC do for you?

Parents: Call if you need
  • Information on conferences, workshops, support groups or newsletters
  • Information on specific disabilities, disability awareness or understanding the grieving process
  • Information on or assistance with starting a support group
  • Information on:
    • Individualized education programs (IEP or IFSP)
    • IEP training video/handouts
    • Parent/student rights and responsibilities
    • The grieving process
    • Special education
    • Transition
    • Camps/leisure activities
  • Another parent to talk with
  • Help in preparing for meetings; someone to attend an IEP/IFSP meeting
School administrators and teachers: Call if you need any of the above, plus:
  • To refer a parent for individual assistance (a personal contact from a PEC coordinator)
  • Information on ways the PEC can help your school (such as providing mini-workshops, improving home-school communications, or encouraging parental involvement in children's education)
  • Assistance in planning a local parent/educator workshop
