Birth Defects Institute
The Birth Defects Institute, in partnership with the University of Iowa and health care providers throughout the state, has developed programs that are designed to address all steps of the life cycle: prenatal, neonatal, pediatric, and adult. The mission is to advance the health and well being of children and adults with genetics conditions and special health care needs in partnership with families, health and human service providers and communities.

Iowa Program for Assistive Technology
The Iowa Program for Assistive Technology (IPAT) is Iowa's grant project under the Assistive Technology Act (ATA) of 1998. IPAT's goals are to promote and create systems change in the state with regards to assistive technology (AT) and it's use. IPAT works with consumers and family members, service providers, and state and local agencies/organizations to promote assistive technology through awareness, training, and policy work.

InfantSEE®
InfantSEE® is a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child's quality of life. Under this program, member optometrists provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment within the first year of life as a no cost public health service.

211 provides information and referrals to human services for a number of health related topics. IowAble Foundation
The Iowa Able Foundation helps Iowans with disabilities, their families and older Iowans access adaptive devices/equipment and home modifications through its loan programs.

Iowa Able offers an alternative financial solution by providing low interest loans with flexible terms to help individuals increase their independence at home, at work, and in the community. This statewide, nonprofit program will loan funds for any item, piece of equipment or product that is used to improve an individual’s quality of life.

Covering Kids & Families (CKF)
CKF is a national initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to increase access to health care for children. Covering Kids in IOWA project has both a state component and a community-based component. The three project goals include: 1. Design and conduct outreach programs in two pilot communities that identify and enroll eligible children into Medicaid and hawk-i. 2.Simplify the Medicaid and hawk-i enrollment process.3.Coordinate existing coverage programs for low-income.

Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawk-i)
Hawk-i is a program that provides health insurance for IOWA children in families with limited incomes. Many families who work hard to make ends meet can get low-cost or free health insurance for their children up to age 19.

Iowa Department of Public Health

Public Health/Maternal Child Health (Title V)
The Bureau of Family Health promotes the health of Iowa families by providing resources for health care services through public and private collaborative efforts. We advocate for services that are family-centered, community-based, and culturally sensitive. Through these efforts, community entities are empowered to develop local health care systems that meet present and future health needs

First Five
1st Five, Healthy Mental Development Initiative is a project funded by the Iowa Legislature to assist medical practitioners in providing social/emotional, family stress and parental depression screenings to children during well-child medical exams.

Visiting Nurse Services
The VNS Healthy Start and Empowerment Family Support Projects provide case management services to families in need in Polk County who are pregnant or have a child up to the age of six.

Women, infants, and children (WIC)
WIC (Women Infants and Children) is a supplemental nutrition program for babies, children under the age of five, pregnant women, breast feeding women, and women who have had a baby in the last six months. WIC helps families by providing healthy foods, nutrition education, and referrals to other health care agencies.

I-SMILE (IDPH)
The I-Smile Program provides oral health screenings; oral health education; nutrition education relating to oral health; fluoride varnish application; and a referral to a dentist for comprehensive dental needs.  The program targets pregnant women and children under the age of 21

Early periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment (EPSDT)
EPSDT is the Early Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment program for children who are enrolled in Medicaid. The focus of this program is to assure that eligible children ages birth through 20 years receive preventive health care services, including oral health care. In Iowa, the EPSDT program is called Care for Kids. EPSDT Care for Kids services are free to children enrolled in Medicaid.

Early Hearing Detection Intervention (EHDI)
Iowa's Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program works to ensure that all newborns and toddlers with hearing loss are identified as early as possible and provided with timely and appropriate audiological, educational, medical intervention and family support. The EHDI program is also dedicated to providing unbiased support to families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Hawk-I (IME)
Iowa offers hawk-i health care coverage for uninsured children of working families. No family pays more than $40 a month. Some families even pay nothing at all

The Iowa Medicaid Enterprise is a collection of specific units, each having an area of expertise, and all working together to accomplish the goals of the Medicaid program. There is a specific site for members (persons who receive Medicaid or want more information about Medicaid benefits)

Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver
The Home and Community Based Services (Waivers) are administered by Iowa Medicaid. Brochures describing each waiver are available on the Iowa Medicaid website

Oral Health Bureau
The Oral Health Bureau promotes and advances health behaviors to reduce the risk of oral diseases and improve the oral diseases and improve the oral health status of all Iowans.

Project THRIVE
Project THRIVE is a public policy analysis and education initiative at NCCP to promote healthy child development and to provide policy support to the State Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS) initiatives funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

Bright Futures
This is a national health promotion initiative dedicated to the principle that every child deserves to be healthy and that optimal health involves a trusting relationship between the health professional, the children, the family and community as partners in health practice.

Search Institute
This is an independent, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization whose mission is to advance the well-being of adolescents and children by generating knowledge and promoting its application. To accomplish this mission, the institute generates, synthesizes, and communicates new knowledge, convenes organizational and community leaders, and works with state and national organizations. At the heart of the institute work is the framework of 40 developmental assets , which are positive experiences, relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
The mission of the AAPD is to advocate policies, guidelines and programs that promote optimal oral health and oral health care for children. The AAPD serves and represents its membership in the areas of professional development and governmental and legislative activities. It is a liaison to other health care groups and the public.

National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center (OHRC)
The purpose of the OHRC is to respond to the needs of states and communities in addressing current and emerging public oral health issues. The National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center
This center supports the implementation of the early childhood provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Our mission is to strengthen service systems to ensure that children with disabilities (birth through five) and their families receive and benefit from high quality, culturally appropriate, and family-centered supports and services.

National Head Start Training and Technical Assistance Resource Center (NRC)
This center supports the Head Start Bureau (HSB) in: (1) identifying emerging trends, priority items, and other project issues; (2) gathering information and coordinating activities to further promote HSB priority items; and (3) promoting awareness and incorporation of promising practices.

The National Child Care Information Center (NCCIC)

Ready Web
ReadyWeb is an electronic collection of resources on school readiness sponsored by the Early Childhood Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative, College of Education, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. ReadyWeb provides a Virtual Library of the full text of documents and articles, and hyperlinks to documents and articles, on various topics related to school readiness. ReadyWeb also provides bibliographies of documents and journal articles from the ERIC database. These bibliographies are updated quarterly.

Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP)
This is a peer-reviewed electronic journal sponsored by the Early Childhood and Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, covers topics related to the development, care, and education of children from birth to approximately age 8. ECRP emphasizes articles reporting on practice-related research and development, and on issues related to practice, parent participation, and policy. ECRP also includes articles and essays that present opinions and reflections, and letters to the editor.

ZERO TO THREE
The Zero to Three mission is to promote the healthy development of our nation's infants and toddlers by supporting and strengthening families, communities, and those who work on their behalf. ZERO TO THREE is a national non-profit organization.

The Education Commission of the States (ECS)
ECS is an interstate compact created in 1965 to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders

The National Governors Association (NGA)
NGA is the collective voice of the nation's governors and one of Washington, D.C.'s, most respected public policy organizations. The NGA Center for Best Practices focuses on state innovations and best practices on issues that range from education and health to technology, welfare reform, and the environment.

Parents as Teachers is the overarching program philosophy of providing parents with child development knowledge and parenting support. The Coalition for Family and Children Services in Iowa

Prevent Child Abuse Iowa (PCA)
Founded in 1975, PCA has the fundamental - and critically important mission - of ending child abuse in the entire state of Iowa. Community Partnerships for Protecting Children
The Community Partnerships for Protecting Children (CPPC) approach aims to keep children safe from abuse and neglect and to support families. The Child and Family Policy Center (CFPC)
CFPC was established in 1989 by former Iowa legislator Charles Bruner to "better link research and policy on issues vital to children and families and to advocate for evidenced-based strategies to improve child outcomes."

Iowa Community Empowerment

Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development
Promotes opportunities for youth to develop the competencies and connections to contribute to their communities. With the support and encouragement of their families, schools and communities, Iowa youth can help create a better Iowa. The Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development is working to make certain that youth have opportunities to be involved, practice healthy behaviors and are socially competent, achieve success in school, and are prepared for a career and productive adulthood.

ISU Extension builds partnerships and provides research-based learning opportunities to improve quality of life in Iowa.

Partnering with Parents
Partnering with Parents consists of a series of training modules designed to strengthen the core competencies of parenting educators. It uses principles of family centered practices to facilitate learning and support with parents. The academy is delivered in face-to-face group settings in Iowa and through online learning. Each summer a 2 day workshop including two of the modules will be offered.

The Kellogg Foundation
