Level 17/18 - Form A

Number and Operations

Compute with whole numbers

Compute with fractions and decimals

Understand and use percents to solve problems (Cases I, II, and III) including percents less than 1 and more than 100

Determine equivalent expressions for fractions, decimals, and percents

Compute with integers

Develop and use strategies to estimate computation and to judge the reasonableness of results

Simplify numeric operations (including powers and scientific notation) using order of operations, absolute value, and the laws of exponents

Algebra

Use algebraic expressions to model situations

Solve linear equations

Simplify algebraic expressions involving sums, differences, products, quotients, and positive and negative exponents

Interpret graphic representations of functions of two variables

Compute with matrices

Geometry/Measurement

Understand and use formulas for the perimeter, circumference, area and volume of geometric figures

Solve problems involving scale factors, using ratio and proportion

Analyze precision, accuracy, and approximate error in measurement situations

Convert from one unit of measurement to another, including examples like 1 meter = 3.3 feet

Data Analysis, Probability, Statistics

Interpret data from a variety of sources, including complex graphs

Compare quantities to determine rank, sums and differences and to find ratios

Using sampling as the basis for informal generalizations

Make inferences or predictions based on data or information

Develop an understanding of combinations as a counting technique

Problem Solving

Select appropriate procedures shown with numerical expressions for word problems

Solve multiple-step word problems, including those with percent and proportions

Use problem solving strategies to solve non-routine problems

Additional Process Standards

Reasoning and proof - use logical reasoning strategies/techniques including Venn Diagrams

Communication - analyze and evaluate the mathematical thinking and strategies of others

Connections - recognize and apply mathematics in contexts outside of mathematics

Representation - identify and apply models of math concepts such as products, fractions, and graphs
