Daily
Review Activities
|
Students
need to keep paper and pencil
skills sharp by regular review
of those skills. The review
sheets can be used
periodically (2 -5 times per
week) to practice essential
skills. Teachers can put the
questions on the board or
overhead, run off individual
copies, or send the students
to the computer to copy and
complete the problems. Work
should be quickly checked, and
questions that were missed by
a large number of students
discussed. Teachers can record
the number correct
periodically. Every tenth
daily review should be
collected and scored. This
skill probe can be used to
judge how effective the daily
review items have been.
Teachers should feel free to
add or delete problems from
the sheets to meet the needs
of their students. It is
especially important to
include items from the
previous unit to solidify the
learning. Teachers need to
take care not to spend more
than 5 - 7 minutes doing these
daily review exercises. If it
is taking longer than that,
delete some of the items.
Because of the long term
effect of the daily review,
review pages in the textbook
can be skipped. In fact, it is
a good policy to start with
the first new concept in the
textbook in the fall. The
pages and pages of review in
the initial chapters can be
skipped or quickly reviewed.
The students will get ample
review with this periodic
practice.
