Ning Apps and Collaborative Document Options

As we mentioned earlier, there are several different ways to set up collaborative document options. While attaching documents to discussion posts takes no administrative setup, the other options do.

One of the easiest options would be to simply link to another site, such as Google Docs (or even a wiki). To do so, you will go into your tab manager setting. When you are in there, click on "Add a new tab" on the left. That will bring up the following box.

Here, you can label your tab name whatever you want it to be called (like Docs, or Wiki). You then will type in the address for the URL. My suggestion would be to check the "opens in a new window" button, to make it easy for users to navigate from Google Docs back to the Ning.

The other 3 options, Google Docs presentations, Box.net, and Zoho Docs, all are Ning Apps. They are just 3 of many great free plugins you can put into your Ning. To access the Ning Apps, go under the Manage Tab and click on the Ning Apps setting. This will take you off your Ning to the Ning Apps site. Here, you can browse or search for different apps. Once you find one you are looking for, click the Add Ning App link on the bottom of it.

It will ask you if you agree to the terms of use. Click the Add Ning App button. Then it will take you back to the tab manager, where you can rename your tab if you would like, and arrange it where you would like it to go.
