Project SEMI


Project SEMI (Science Education Mobile Instruction) is the result of a partnership of Iowa businesses, educational institutions, and organizations committed to excellence in life sciences education. Project SEMI, which is operated by Heartland Area Education Agency, is Iowa's only mobile biotechnology laboratory classroom.

A World-Class Lab on Wheels

* 53-foot, custom-built semi trailer biotechnology laboratory
* 800-square-foot lab, accommodates up to 30 students
* State-of-the-art equipment and curriculum
* Heated and air conditioned for year-round use
* Can reach 30-35 school districts & nearly 14,000 students annually

Project SEMI Goals for Success

* Provide students with the most cutting-edge equipment.
* Provide professional development for science educators.
* Increase student achievement in science.
* Build science literacy in local communities.
* Increase student interest in biotechnology careers.
* Provide ways for students to learn about the impact of science and technology issues on society.
