Denise Krefting will now be an Instructional Technology Consultant at Heartland. You can still contact her through Heartland at dkrefting@aea11.k12.ia.us for technology and science integration. Kat Hudson is taking a year's leave of absence to teach middle schoolers in Thailand (see information below)


John Stiles John S: John has been an educator for over thirty years in three states and four countries. He has taught science from elementary to graduate levels. An advocate for students with disabilities, he is secretary and past president of Science Education for Students with Disabilities.



 

Craig ECraig Edmondson: Craig has served as an environmental educator / park ranger at various county, state, and federal nature areas. He started his educational career 15 years ago, teaching in the areas of Biology and Earth Science. Craig also has administrative experience, serving as a secondary principal. He comes to Heartland from the Marshalltown office of AEA 267, where he held the position of science consultant.


 

 

ROb KRob Kleinow: Rob Kleinow joins Heartland AEA as a Science consultant from Fairfield Iowa. Rob has over 20 years of experience in Science Education, teaching at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. Rob has a Masters degree in Educational Technology. Rob’s special areas of interest include Science Inquiry and using technology in Science learning.

SEMI Facilitator

Evelyn Wandrey: Evelyn is the SEMI teacher facilitator for tEvelyn Whe SEMI project.Evelyn will be training participating teachers to use the SEMI lab and curriculum, providing professional development, and working with educators to develop new biotech curriculum.  She has taught biology and life science for both public and private schools, and has worked in industry as a research assistant.

  Kat Hudson Kat Hudson:Kat will be on a year's leave of absence from Heartland starting June 30, 2007. She will be teaching middle school at The American School of Bangkok in Thailand (www.asb.th.edu). Keep in touch and connect your students with hers for an international experience! Sept 17- Nov 18: Projects WILD/WILD Aquatic/Learning Tree On-line Course

Sept 20-Nov 30-Online TeacherLine: Science and the Living World - Grades K-5 

Sept 28 and Oct 13 Star Lab Training, the training on the 28th at theFoxboro Conference Center at NW 86th and 62nd Ave. in Johnston(this is a change in location from the Learning Resource Center in WDM) and the 13th will be at Saydel Middle School. Both training's will be from 9:00-3:30 for new teachers and 1:00-3:30 for returning teachers.

Sept 29 (Des Moines) or Oct 1(Cedar Rapids) Free Vernier Probes Workshop 

Oct. 23 Palms and Probes training at Heartland 4:00-6:30 in Rm 8.  Heartland has 3 curriculum groups of probes that send data to palm handhelds that you can check out from us and use in the classroom. They are Physical Science , Human Body , and Water Quality.  In order to use this technology in your classroom, you will need to attend a training. If interested e-mail Rob Kleinow.

Nov 12: Heartland has 2 Texas Instrument Navigators ( http://www.aea11.k12.ia.us/science/navigator.html ) that can be checked out from Heartland and used in your classroom. To check these out requires training. Heartland will be offering a training in conjunction with Tom Allen TI rep on Monday, Nov 12 from 1-4 in Room I at the Johnston office.
