Heartland AEA Assessment Team

Members of the assessment team assist schools to develop, implement, and evaluate district wide assessment programs that promote high levels of learning for all students.

Assessing the quality of a building/district reading program is a systemic process that involves the examination of data from of a variety of sources to strengthen the program. This tool has been designed to assist in this process.

The screening tool can be used at the building or district level by a team of teachers and/or administrators. The process will involve three basic components: collecting information, analyzing and evaluating that information, and taking action to strengthen the reading program to increase student learning and achievement. Some questions may be easy to answer with the collection of little information and others may take time to both search for the necessary information and to have concentrated discussions about findings and possible actions.

The screening tool is divided into 4 sections: assessment, support systems, instruction, and curriculum. Choose to complete the entire screening tool or any specific section that matches the district/building needs.
