Behavior Resources
A Web page with links
to full-text of journal articles on oppositional behavior was created for the
Cattell Elementary study group. All educators are welcome to use the resources.
You can read the article online or print it for later use.
- January 2001 World of Media is Now Online
The January World of Media monthly newsletter is now
available. World of Media can be browsed article by article or searched by
keyword. Hyperlinks to Web sites and e-mail addresses are convenient
features.
- Using
DATA to Improve Student Achievement
To support
your learning at the December 5-7 workshops with Deborah Wahlstrom on using
data to improve student achievement, Heartland has created a Web site with
links to full-text journal articles, links to Web sites, and recommended
readings. Click

- Knowledge Bowl Competition
Heartland is pleased to bring the
fourteenth regional High School Knowledge Bowl competition to Area 11 schools.
This year 113 teams, from 43 schools participated in the computer round of the
contest, on November 8. The 24 top scoring teams in the computer round competed
in a final face-to-face competition in Des Moines on Thursday, November 30.
Results for the Championship Round of the Area 11 High School Knowledge Bowl
are now posted.
- English Language Learners/Diversity Issues Webpage
The new Heartland AEA 11 English Language
Learners/Diversity Issues webpage offers information about resources,
professional development opportunities and conferences, helpful web sites,
materials, associations and organizations and full journal articles on related
topics.
- 504
Listserv
This 504 listserv is designed to provide an online
netwrking opportunity for educators in AEA 11 with Section 504
responsibilities, including Section 504 coordinators, superintendents,
principals, counselors, teachers and BAT team members. It provides a forum
where you can exchange ideas and info., ask questions of your peers and network
with each other around efforts to identify and determine eligibility for
Section 504 and provide appropriate accommodations for eligible
students.

Learners Diversity Listserv
Introducing the new English Language
Learners Diversity listserv. The purpose of the mailing list is the exchange of
information about teaching strategies, curriculum and assessment, resource
materials, problem-solving, culture and support information. Sign up by
following the link above.
- New Media Services Poster Available
Heartland
Media Services created a full-color 24" x 36" poster to support students as
they do research with on-line databases. It highlights the search features of
Encyclopedia Britannica Online, Electric Library, and AP Photo Archive. It also
includes a summary of the research process that students can follow as they
develop their research paper or project.
An eight-page companion guide,
Brief Notes: Using Internet Online Research Databases, includes additional
details on searching plus information for teachers.
- Full-text Journals and Professional Development
The
Heartland AEA Professional Library has compiled bibliographies of current
journal articles on various topics to help educators in the Heartland service
area stay up-to-date. Educators can click on the article titles and read the
full-text online or print the articles for later reading. How to use these
articles: Study groups may want to use these resources. Educators taking staff
development courses may want to supplement their learning with these resources.
Individual educators who would like to read more about an area of interest can
conveniently read a brief review of the literature.

- School Improvement
Resources
This new Web site includes links to Internet sites on
school improvement and school reform. You'll also find full-text of about 30
journal articles on data-driven reform, mentoring, multiple intelligences,
assessment, staff development and their relationship to school improvement.
- Heartland Learning
Center
A new Learning Center is now available at Heartland's
Johnston office. The Learning Center was created, in part, by a grant from the
Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust. Educators can visit the center to preview and
evaluate a wide variety of technologies, software and other educational
resources in a supportive environment. The Learning Center will be open from
8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on
Fridays and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
