Coaching Endorsement
A coaching endorsement can be obtained only by individuals who currently hold a teaching license.
A coaching endorsement enables you to be a legal coach in the state of Iowa. It allows you to be employed as a head or assistant coach in any type of interscholastic athletic activity.
REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of the following four courses.
These courses may be taken in any sequence over any length of time.
Note: To obtain an endorsement, these courses must be taken for college credit.
Theory and Ethics of Coaching (1 credit hour)
Human Growth and Development (1 credit hour)
Physiology (1 credit hour)
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (2 credit hours)
For individuals holding a teaching license, Drake University graduate credit is available for these courses.
DRAKE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE CREDIT
Graduate credit from Drake University will be available at class. The cost is $90 per credit hour for classes beginning on or before May 31, 2009. All classes beginning on or after June 1, 200, will be $100 per credit hour.
Registration: Registration for graduate credit will be done the first day of class.
Grade Reports/Transcripts:
Drake University will issue official transcripts following the completion of the coursework.

APPLICATION
Upon successful completion of the four required courses, you must submit the following information to the Board of Educational Examiners.
A short letter to the Board of Educational Examiners requesting that the endorsement be added to your teaching license. The letter should include your name, social security number, teacher folder number, complete address, and phone number.
Official transcript(s) showing completion of and college credit for each of the required courses.
A fee of $50 (checks payable to the Board of Educational Examiners).
RENEWAL
The coaching endorsement is automatically renewed with your teaching license.

Fee for optional graduate credit will be paid the first day of class. Undergraduate credit is not available for these classes.
FEES:
Course registration fee must accompany registration.

REFUND POLICY
If you are unable to attend a class for which you have registered, you must notify the Heartland professional development office prior to the end of the course to be eligible for a refund or transfer to another class.
It is not the policy of Heartland Professional Development to issue refunds to non-attending students since other potential students on the class waiting list have been denied the opportunity to enroll.
